Top 5 Oculus Rift Games Currently Available
The Oculus Rift VR headset is finally available for consumers to purchase in the UK as well as the US; not only is the headset available for purchase online, there are also various retailers offering consumers the chance to test the headset before they purchase it. While the headset has arrived, there’s no sign that the Oculus Touch controllers will be released any time soon, so players are currently forced to us a Xbox One controller.
The new VR headset comes bundled with the VR platform game Lucky’s Tale but there are plenty of other good games currently available for the Oculus Rift. Here are five of the best VR games around.
5. Surgeon Simulator
While the UK doesn’t currently have the Oculus Touch controller, this is still an entertaining game to play; it does lack some immersion when playing with a classic Xbox One controller. The aim of the game is to complete various surgeries in a game where the player can control every finger on both hands.
It may not sound like the best choice for a VR game but Surgeon Simulator is incredibly immersive and is a very entertaining game for the Oculus Rift; there is no plot but there is still plenty to do.
4. The Assembly
This story driven game is great for newcomers; it’s relatively short but offers an interesting story line with nice puzzles which work on a VR platform. Some players have reported issues with motion sickness at certain points in the game however the game can also be played without VR so it is possible to skip these sections by playing the game on a PC instead.
The Assembly may not have lived up to some of the hype but this is still one of the better story based VR games currently available for the Oculus Rift.
3. Eve: Valkyrie
There is no doubt that Eve: Valkyrie is a great VR game. It features frantic combat in a multiplayer focused dogfighting game and is set in the universe of popular MMO Eve Online. The controls for the game work well with a Xbox One controller but the Oculus Touch will allow for a much more immersive experience. While it’s multiplayer orientated, it does include a limited single player mode which teaches the mechanics of the game without the added stress of fighting other players.
Eve: Valkyrie offers players a chance to experience frantic first-person action in a new way; due to the nature of the game, it’s been known to cause some motion sickness. This is the best multiplayer VR game currently available for VR headsets and will appeal to fans of the sci-fi genre.
2. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
This game quickly became a hit when it was released on PC and for a good reason; it’s a group game where one player needs to describe and disarm a bomb while the others need to find the correct answers to defuse the bomb. It’s a very simple idea but it works incredibly well and using VR only enhances the experience of the game. Using a VR headset provides more immersion for the player handling the bomb and the other players are still able to support the bomb defuser.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a brilliant VR game to play with friends or family which make it perfect for parties, special occasions or just exploring VR games with a few other people.
1. Chronos
Chronos is without a doubt one of the best games for any VR platform and is the best single player experience currently available. This is not a first person game however; it uses third person as players are sent through the labyrinth to defeat the dragon. It features some very interesting mechanics which hardcore gamers will love; the combat is similar to the Dark Souls series and the puzzles are difficult but rewarding.
The more the player dies, the most difficult the game becomes. It’s a wonderful VR game and features a wide variety of content that can keep players coming back.
